A vacate clean (also called an end-of-lease clean or move-out clean) is a thorough, deep clean of a property, done when a tenant is moving out. The goal is to return the property to a condition that meets the landlord’s or real estate agent’s expectations for a bond return (in rental situations). Here’s what a standard vacate clean usually includes:
VACATE/DEEP CLEAN CHECKLIST
All Rooms
- Dusting walls, wiping doors, and skirting boards
- Clean light switches, power points, and doorknobs
- Remove cobwebs from ceilings and corners
- Clean window sills, and tracks (inside)
- Dust and wipe air vents, fans, and light fixtures
- Vacuum and mop floors thoroughly, including edges
- Clean inside and outside of built-in wardrobes, drawers, and shelves
Kitchen
- Clean inside and outside of all cupboards and drawers
- Clean oven thoroughly, including racks, trays, and oven door
- Clean stovetop, rangehood, and filters
- Wipe down bench tops, splashbacks, and tiles
- Clean sink, taps, and polish stainless steel
- Clean outside of dishwasher, microwave, and fridge (if included)
- Degrease surfaces and remove any leftover food/debris
Bathrooms & Toilets
- Scrub and disinfect toilet, shower, bath, basin, and all tiles
- Clean mirrors, vanity units, and shelves
- Remove mould and soap scum as much as possible
- Clean shower screen/glass and polish taps
- Remove dust from exhaust fans and air vents (exterior)
- Empty and clean bathroom bins (if applicable)
Bedrooms/Living Areas
- Dust and wipe all surfaces, wardrobes, cupboards
- Clean mirrors and glass doors
- Clean interior doors and handles
Laundry Area
- Clean sink, taps, and wipe down benches
- Wipe down electrical appliances
- Clean inside cupboards and wipe appliances
